Our roots

A Village Built on Gratitude

Warm Hearth Village began with a remarkable vision from founders Wybe and Marietje Kroontje.

Dutch immigrants who endured the occupation and oppression of World War II, the Kroontjes came to America with a deep appreciation for freedom. They dreamed of creating a retirement community as an expression of gratitude to the country that welcomed them.

Their vision was about more than housing. They imagined a community that respected both people and nature, where older adults from all walks of life could contribute their talents, ideas and experiences.

Through a true grassroots effort, they rallied the community around a 100-year vision for Warm Hearth Village.

Officially incorporated in 1974, Warm Hearth Village has been part of the New River Valley community for more than five decades.

Warm Hearth at Home carries that same spirit of gratitude, dignity and genuine care beyond the Village and into the homes of the people we serve.

How we work

Care begins with a conversation.

01

We start with your life.

Before anything is arranged, we listen — to the person, the home, and the people who know it best.

02

We build around you.

Care is shaped around each person's needs, goals and home, and it changes as they do.

03

We help you find the right care.

Home health, home care and hospice are different things. If you're not sure which fits, we'll help you figure it out.

From families

Kind Words from Families We've Cared For

Every family's experience is personal. We're grateful when they choose to share theirs.

My mother was in the care of Warm Hearth Hospice when she passed away. When we realized we needed hospice Warm Hearth was an excellent choice. We had used their Home Health services and the transition to hospice was very easy. They explained everything so we understood.

Mother's nurse, Christina, was very thorough when she explained what was happening with her mentally and physically. She took wonderful care of mom and also us, as we navigated through this difficult time.

When mom passed, she took care of everything from getting mom ready for us to say goodbye to calling the funeral home.

My family would recommend Warm Hearth Hospice to anyone considering this service.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about my family's experience with Warm Hearth Hospice. The entire team has been so professional, kind and loving, while providing such excellent care for my mom, who is dealing with dementia. Their compassion and genuine concern for her, as well as their concern and support for our family, has helped make this journey much more bearable. Their visits bring so much comfort. It has been a joy to get to know them all. I can't imagine another team being any more loving and supportive as they have been.

As a matter of fact, they feel more like family to our family. We could never thank them enough! They are truly earthly angels.

For me personally choosing a hospice agency for my mother was incredibly difficult, but Warm Hearth hospice has been an absolute blessing to our family. The ladies that come into my parents home treat them with such respect and kindness. My mother's nurses Amber and Christine are exceptional in meeting my mother's needs. They always keep me informed and make great suggestions for my mother's care.

Kayla also provides exceptional care for my mother, showers, bathes and even fixing a snack or sandwich if needed, my mother lights up when she sees Kayla. The social worker Catherine goes above and beyond making sure our needs are met, she reaches out to me on a regular basis also offered to help me complete my mother's medicaid application.

All ladies have been highly professional, they are making an incredibly difficult time a little easier to bear.

Thank you.
